  • 10 Stats About Data Loss You Need to Know

According to Symantec’s Report “Avoiding the Hidden Costs of the Cloud”: 47% of enterprises lost data in the cloud and had to restore their information from backups 37% of SMBs have lost data in the cloud and had to restore their information from backups 66% of those organizations saw recovery operations fail According to The Aberdeen Group’s Report “SaaS Data Loss: The Problem You Didn’t Know You Had” 32% of companies surveyed lost data from the cloud. Of these instances, 47% were due to end-users deleting information 17% were users overwriting data 13% were because hackers deleted info According to the Cloud Security Alliance’s Top 9 Cloud Security Threats in 2013 Data Loss is the #2 threat to cloud security (up from #5 in 2010) According to the Boston Computing Network’s Data Loss Statistics 60% of companies that lose their data will shut down within 6 months of the disaster According to CloudBackup’s Facts about Data Loss 20% of small to medium businesses will suffer a major disaster causing loss of critical data every 5 years. (Source: Richmond House Group) About 70% of business people have experienced (or will experience) data loss due to accidental deletion, disk or system failure, viruses, fire or some other disaster (Source: Carbonite, an online backup service) You may notice that some of these stats actually contradict others. It may depend slightly on the number of companies surveyed, but in general, companies are not usually eager to admit they have suffered from these kind of hiccups. Telling the world that you accidentally deleted really important information just does not happen unless one’s hand is forced. But regardless of whether it is 32% or 47%, up to almost half of companies have lost important business information in one way or the other and oftentimes it was accidentally deleted. Protect your business from these threats. If your data is on the cloud, then let iTEASPOON help prevent you from becoming a statistic. #Backups #DataLoss #CloudBackups

  • Hope... Is not a strategy

The lower Zambezi is a breathtaking gem in Zambia. Near Kanyemba Island the river is filled with wildlife of all shapes and sizes. One particular animal found there in the hundreds are the hippos. If you know a little about the hippo you will know it is one of the most dangerous animals in Africa and causes more human deaths than lions or crocodiles - scary stuff… One summer holiday we had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks at Kiambi Safari Lodge on the lower Zambezi in Zambia. On the particular day, we booked a sundowner cruise on the river with the hippo infested waters. It’s safe…. trust me…. I was nervous and excited at the same time. As we navigated the waters on a small boat, there were a few instances where we came very close to pods of hippos. All the way through I was hoping and praying that nothing would go wrong. And believe me, there was plenty that could go wrong. It reminds me of how some businesses deal with their IT. Information and communication are at the heart of every business, like the Zambezi that is the source of life for the people and wildlife. Without that, you can’t run and maintain a healthy business - you can’t make a living. A classic example of this is a server failure. You start to panic, your heart is beating faster... When it comes to IT, most businesses depend on HOPE as a strategy. You hope that the backups are up to date, you hope your failure is not too severe, you hope everything will be ok. Sometimes it works but most often it doesn’t and results in frustration, loss of working hours and ultimately it results in financial loss... I have helped businesses to leverage cloud technology as a strategy to break free from the limitation of outdated technology and replaced the hope with Certainty and Peace of Mind. Like Joseph, our skipper, who navigated us safely on the Zambezi. I made the following transformations in their business: First, I ignored the “old way” of doing IT - internal email and file servers, cheap hosted email services and costly support agreements and adopted a new way. A state of the art cloud-based business platform that brought stability and flexibility into the way they work. Secondly, I positioned myself as an expert. People prefer to deal with experts. We implement a solution that has been adopted by more than 5 million business and 65% of the Fortune 500 companies. A system that can scale with your business. Thirdly, I adopted a Cloud IT Support model for my clients that significantly reduced their IT costs and allowed them to save or invest funds in other aspects of their business. My clients stopped paying the IT guy tax. To run a successful business with the flexibility to work from anywhere on any device, at any time and knowing with CERTAINTY that your IT systems are current and up to date, is key to building the business you love. Do you recognise any of the above? The truth is that if you are just making one of these mistakes, you are limiting your income, freedom and potential. The world is changing and the old methods of doing things are going the way of the dinosaurs. If you don't change your ways, you fade into obscurity. However, if you are motivated and want to advance your business and migrate your IT to the cloud, I have good news. Step one is to schedule a no obligation 30-minute consultation and strategy session. In our 30-minute session, we can work on a strategy for your business and see if we are a good fit. • The History of Google

1995~ Larry Page and Sergey Brin meet at Stanford. Larry, 22, a U Michigan grad, is considering the school; Sergey, 21, is assigned to show him around. 1996~ Larry and Sergey begin collaborating on a search engine called BackRub. BackRub operates on Stanford servers for more than a year, eventually taking up too much bandwidth. 1997~ Google.com is registered as a domain on September 15. The name, a play on the word "googol," a mathematical term for the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros, reflects Larry and Sergey's mission to organise a seemingly infinite amount of information on the web. https://www.google.com/about/company/history/ #history #Google

  • Google's New Mobile-First Index and the Death of Desktop SEO

Google rolled out the “mobile-first” index. It’s going to change the way that your site gets ranked in the search engine results pages (SERPs). Here are a few things you need to know about the mobile-first index so that you can optimise your website accordingly. What is the mobile-first index? By now, you probably know that Google crawls your site to add pages to its index. That is, it uses a bot to surf around your site like a real visitor and follows links on your pages. In the past, Google crawled your site as a desktop user. Now, however, Google will crawl your site as a mobile user. That’s a distinction with a really big difference. For starters, your website might present a completely different display to mobile users versus desktop users. In some cases, links that appear on the desktop version of your site might not appear on the mobile version. That’s bad because the Googlebot can’t follow links that aren’t there. As a result, your site might take a hit in the SERPs. #mobile #Googleindexing #website
